Tabitha (or Dorcas in Greek) was a disciple of Jesus from Joppa. She was an essential and beloved part of her community, known for always doing good, helping the poor and widows, and making clothing and robes for them.

Tabitha became very ill and the sickness took her life. Her friends gathered to prepare her body for burial in her home. The disciple Peter got word of Tabitha’s death and came to home home. The widows were all gathered there, crying and showing Peter the clothing and robes that Tabitha had made while she was with them. Peter sent everyone out of the room and knelt in prayer. Then he turned to the dead woman and said "Tabitha, get up." She opened her eyes and sat up.

After Tabitha was raised from the dead, word spread far and wide about this resurrection miracle, and many people came to faith in the Lord. (Acts 9:36-42)
