Rahab was a Canaanite woman who lived in the city of Jericho. She is known to many as a prostitute, a harlot, or an innkeeper by profession. An unmarried woman who had grown up in the pagan Canaanite culture, Rahab had heard the stories of all the miracles that the God of Israel had done to save his people. She knew the Israelites had a powerful God on their side.

Because of her faith in the Israelite God, Rahab risked her life to save the lives of Joshua and the other Israelite spies. As a result, God spared her family when the city of Jericho was destroyed. Rahab, as well as her family, were brought to live among the Israelite people, where she dwelled the remainder of her life. She is commended for her faith and righteousness in Hebrews 11:31 and James 2:25. Rahab is one of the women in the lineage of Jesus.
