She is known in Orthodox tradition to be a missionary and evangelist, responsible for bringing many people to faith in Christ, including her five sisters and two sons. Most oral accounts describe great torment that Photini and her family endured for their faith, and her life ended by being thrown in a well. Photini is known as "Equal to the Apostles.”
