Lydia Premium Prints
Lydia was a successful businesswoman from Thyatira, a wealthy Roman town. She was a merchant of expensive purple cloth made with a dye for which the region was famous. A woman of independent means, Lydia was known for her hospitality, opening her home as a place of refuge and gathering.
Lydia came to faith in Jesus after hearing the apostle Paul preach in her town. Her life was immediately transformed and she and everyone in her household was baptized. Eager to share her resources, she insisted on hosting Paul and Luke in her home while they were visiting, and they were convinced. Later, following the imprisonment of Paul and Silas, they returned to the home of Lydia to meet with and encourage the believers there.
Lydia is known as the first Christian convert in Europe, as well as a leader instrumental in starting the first church in Philippi. (Acts 6:13-15,40)
