Busy with the Work of Love is inspired by a line from a poem by Korean American Poet Tasha Jun, titled “Anger, I will not Tame Her.” This poem has spoken to me deeply about how we handle anger. Raised in southern “nice” culture, I often thought anger was bad and should be dismissed or swept under the rug. The green design in the artwork is inspired by a childhood story when I wore green culottes and my classmate called me “the Jolly Green Giant.” This insult was very upsetting to my younger self and I didn’t know how to react. The story stuck with me in a powerful way that reminds me of the power of our words. Paying attention to anger and healing its wounds bring so much more beauty and love than ignoring it.
